Tbilisi Hosted the ICAO Route Development Group RDGE/33 Working Meeting

Sakaeronavigatsia hosted the 33rd Working Meeting of the ICAO European Eastern Region Route Development Group (RDGE/33). The event brought together air navigation experts from various countries and representatives of international aviation organizations.

RDGE is an ICAO working group mandated to support air route development, airspace optimization, and enhanced regional coordination across Europe and Central Asia.

Participants discussed the implementation of new air routes and modifications to existing ones, as well as future perspectives for the development of the Free Route Airspace (FRA) concept. These initiatives aim to reduce flight duration and fuel consumption, directly contributing to the reduction of aviation’s environmental impact. The meeting also addressed the improvement of civil-military coordination and challenges related to GNSS/GPS signal interference.

“Georgia has now hosted this large-scale ICAO working meeting for the third time, which reflects the country’s active involvement in regional air navigation matters. Interference with GNSS signals is currently one of the key challenges in the region, and we believe this issue should be addressed through coordinated international cooperation,” said Evgeni Tavadze, Head of Airspace Development Division at Sakaeronavigatsia, who was unanimously re-elected for a second term as Chair of the ICAO Route Development Group (RDGE) by the member states.
